Facebook: LANA LEARNS with the “I Paint My Shoes!” Group

These two Facebook commercials, directed by Benjy Brooke, blend colorful, and dynamic 2D animation with live-action sequences starring Lana Condor, the star of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. The objective was to promote FB Group community platform by showing her interaction with two existing groups: roller skating & custom sneaker making.
For this project, I provided storyboards, style frames, and designs following the energy, palette, and essence of the style.

Character Design and Styleframes

Kicking things off, I was given an original design provided by the director. This served as inspiration for a character exploration of a pocket-sized twist of Lana's furry friend! 🐕

Storyboards

For this section, I started exploring different versions of an early storyboard for some animated parts of the ad.

We explored different versions with multiple jokes to find a balance between the 2D and live-action sections.

For this part, the idea was for Lana to start describing her dog, starting with a basic dog shape warping into the description she’s giving.

STYLEFRAMES and Backgrounds

A rough drawing and composition were given to develop these explorations in multiple sequences of the spots. Vibrant and energetic backgrounds were provided, for some of the scenes.

Additionally, I participated in the making of different fonts and style frames that served as a guide for the 2D animation team.
